A therapist is a specially trained professional who hears and sees you without bias and who can offer help from an experienced, objective point of view. Therapy can increase your resilience against life’s hardships and obstacles and open your heart and mind to more rewarding ways of relating to yourself and others. My approach to therapy is based in my belief that all people have the ability to make necessary changes in their thoughts, feelings and behavior. The issues you bring to therapy will guide me in selecting an approach that works for you, drawing on the many techniques and treatment models I have learned to utilize over the years. Your personality and preferences are taken into account as we work together to formulate a treatment plan that best addresses your needs.
Our work together will likely involve a variety of methods found in psychodynamic, behavioral, cognitive, humanistic and/or integrative approaches. I come from a strengths-based, positive, non-pathologizing perspective. I teach and encourage the use of mindfulness practices to help you in your work and I employ ongoing evaluation to ensure you are getting the results you desire.
